“Insects Awaken” is a traditional way to describe the start of the spring in Chinese society, precisely from the first crash of thunder that awakes all the creatures after the dormant. It also can be seen as a metaphor for quickening or new life.

In his album "Insects Awaken", Lim Giong interweaves a luxuriant mix of digitally processed sounds evoking the freshness and vitality of spring. These consist mainly of a fascinating variety of electronically generated sounds, combined with instrumental music, snippets of monologues or folk songs in Mandarin, Hoklo and French, and miscellaneous recorded sounds. Off and on throughout the album the recordings of actual insects and electronically simulated insect-like sounds--sometimes sweet and gentle, sometimes raw and raucous--evokes a feeling of irrepressible life force. After a long winter sleep, this album is about the awakening to identify him and his music.

* "Insects Awaken" won the best crossover album of the 17th Golden Melody Awards in 2006.
