HOME (HEARTS+HORSES' GOING HOME REMIX)
“The song ended up remixing itself. I just put the pieces together and hope that people like it.” Wes Steed, on his remix of okamotonoriaki’s track “Home”.
Wes, and his wife Juju, have been our dear friends since the set-up of mu-nest. They have contributed their amazing musical talents to our compilation and remix albums, and their works have been one of the major influences in the establishment of our label.
Here are some little things about Wes Steed: Wes has been involved with electronic music since the mid 90's. Best known for "park avenue music" that was more electronic based than his current group
"hearts+horses"
which seamlessly blends classical, IDM and fuzzy tones to create a soundtracky haze. hearts+horses is mostly improvised music using piano, drums, live sampling and analog noise.
“When I do a remix I try to do my own thing to the song and I usually only use a couple of the original tracks.” In his brilliant remix of okamotonoriaki’s track “Home”, Wes indeed only used a couple of the original tracks, notably the original piano line. By using that as the backbone, Wes skilfully blended in his signature analog noise processing and seamlessly intermingled them with some mesmerizing IDM-ish beats, creating a much darker, suspensive atmosphere, which is a sharp contrast to the warm and cosy ambient portrayed by the original track.
And perhaps what one said is true: Home is where the heart breaks. (mü-nest)
